There is a federal fight to stop child sexual abuse. Some lawmakers say convicts have it easy under the current law, so they are moving legislation through the House to strengthen punishment. They also hope it will also act as a deterrent. Full Article

These law makers are pushing for many tough laws to pass, to make everyone believe it’s for a good cause which has done nothing good but bad. What’s in the agenda for these law makers that want tough ordinances for the sex offender registry? because when they create all kinds of fallacies about how sexual abuse and child sex trafficking is imminent threat to society, the finger is pointed at registrants, what’s the agenda for these law makers to pass tough laws, if what they do has contradiction, is it about safety?
Some lawmakers say we have it easy? Holy dogsh*t, this is one of the more ridiculous things I’ve heard in a while. So, I suppose being forever branded on the internet as a felon of moral turpitude and being unemployable or perpetually underemployed because of the above, having a hard time finding and keeping a place to live, being subject to an endless form of probation and continually legislated and discriminated against, and subject to harsh prison sentences for failing to jump through all the hoops thrown at us long after we’ve paid our debts, we have it too easy?
Receiving longer sentences than murderers in some cases, that’s “too easy?”
I hope these legislators, or someone close to them, one day get even a taste of what we deal with. A mere accusation can be enough to ruin someone’s life.
Looks like an Adam Walsh Act, which has been abject failure (urban dictionary definition) http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=abject%20failure
If it was a matter of public safety and not just typical the political rhetoric, the headline would be modified: LAWMAKERS PUSHING LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN PUNISHMENT FOR CHILD ABUSERS
Why specifically target sex abuse when you can target EVERY type of abuse? To me, this proves that it is never about public safety.
They want stronger laws to get all RSO’s back in prison. Setting more traps with failure to register. Very dishonest statistics showing RSO’s get thrown back in jail the longer time goes. The longer on the registry the greater the odds of a mistake. Yes I said mistake. States that require IP addresses and screen names. I go by David M. Say after fifteen years and now in my 50’s I accidentally hit David N instead of David M and don’t notice it… That should be ten years?? For getting old and not paying attention. No criminal intent. Then give 7 days to report it. Heck change it to 3 days or 3 hours to catch more people. Then say… See look at how they commit more crime.
Some sites won’t let you use certain email addresses. So you get one that works to join a heart bypass forum to ask questions then just forget to update it because of age and sharpness. These traps are life ending for the entire family. So sad people in power have such little regard for families just trying to survive.
I can think of a million ways any RSO can get arrested for failure to register. Not because he or she is a lazy criminal but rather just a aging stressed out physically ill human being. I see some states like Virginia gives like 3 days for changes. Some states it’s hours and I bet eventually it will be minutes.
Punishment is generally not a deterrent, especially punishment that most are not aware of.
If you really want to promote less sex abuse, you need to do what Germany did. Actually provide a service for people to reach out to when they’re having these thoughts. When people can’t seek help it just bottles up the issue and places the person in a bubble where they offend. Actual rehab and preventative rehab and counseling will do far more to safeguard the public than any harsh punishment.
